Antipodean Contemporary Classical Composer
Welcome to my website with details about my music, experience, concerts and how to contact me.
I’m a mature-aged, early-career composer who began composition studies at the age of 45. Two years later, I won the Joseph Dorfman International Composition Competition for the chamber work 'Beyond the Gate’. Since then, I’ve had works performed by leading Australian and International ensembles including Ensemble Offspring (Noosa), Nota Bene Ensemble at ISAM (Germany), Viney-Grinberg Piano Duo (Brisbane) and Blush Opera (Parramatta Lanes Festival). In 2023 my piano work, ‘Constellations’, was selected and performed by multiple contestants at the Sydney International Piano Competition. Earlier this year, I won the Neil Lawson-May award for my solo piano composition, Ballade, premiered by Sam Hayworth at the Solvent Music Festival (UK). In September 2025, Tamara-Anna Cislowska and Andrey Gugnin will perform and record my complete two-piano works at the Sydney Opera House, and in February 2026, Konstantin Shamray will perform my complete solo piano compositions at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
As a student I won the Catherine Ellis Prize, Cecil Hill Award, Michel Camilo Celebrity Scholarship to study orchestration (with Ben Newman) and composition (with Marti Epstein) at Berklee College of Music (US) as visiting student, and graduated as the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar. I’ve attended two International Summer Academy of Music (ISAM) composition workshops in Germany. There I worked with Ofer Ben-Amots and Jan Jirásek, composing chamber music for the Note Bene Ensemble. Currently, I am finishing my Master of Music at the University of Queensland, with Dr Robert Davidson as my composition supervisor. My thesis topic is researching a contemporary take on the traditional form of Variations.
As a non-binary, mature aged, queer composer, I identify as a storyteller who likes to find beauty and joy in even the harshest of subjects. My music explores movement, gesture and narratives. My passion lies in creating unique sound worlds.
